Video consultation appointments

We use Microsoft Teams for video appointments with our clinical teams. Here’s how your video appointments will work.

Non-urgent advice: Video appointments update

You can join video appointments with your clinicians through MyChart (our secure patient portal) or by email if you don't have MyChart.

This has replaced Attend Anywhere, making video appointments easier for everyone.

Frequently asked questions

How do I join my video appointment on the day?

By email

You will be sent an email 15 minutes before the start time of your video appointment containing a link to join the video call.

Please don't send this link to anyone else.

If you wish to invite a guest (relative/carer) please see the "Who will join the video appointment, and can I invite a guest?" section below.

By MyChart

  1. Go to the 'Visit details' page in MyChart.
  2. Click the 'Join video appointment' button up to 15 minutes before your appointment (the button will be greyed out if you try to join earlier).

Joining the Video Call

  1. The link from the email or the button in MyChart will open Microsoft Teams in a web browser.
  2. Enter your name and allow Microsoft Teams to access your microphone and camera.
  3. You will be placed in a virtual waiting room.

During the Appointment

  1. The clinic will see you have arrived, and your doctor will join when ready.
  2. Make sure your microphone and camera are both switched on in Microsoft Teams (buttons are in the top right of the screen).
  3. Do not use the ‘Chat’ feature in Teams during your appointment.
  4. Ensure you are in a quiet and private area for your video appointment.
Who will join the video appointment, and can I invite a guest?

Your clinician might ask another clinician or colleague, like an interpreter, to join the appointment.

You can also invite a relative or carer to join your video appointment.

You can do this through MyChart (check the Video Appointment FAQs in MyChart) or ask your doctor during the appointment to send an email link to your relative or carer.

What if I'm unable to connect with my clinician at the time of my appointment?

We will try to be on time for your appointment, but sometimes there are delays.

  • If your clinician is more than 5 minutes late, you will get an email.
  • If this happens, stay on the call and they will join as soon as possible. Please don't call the hospital—they will join your call.
  • If the video appointment can't happen because of technical issues, your clinician will call you on the phone.
  • If you get disconnected after waiting for 30 minutes, use the web link in the email about your clinician running late to reconnect to the video call.
